The Grande Cuvée line is the flagship non-vintage blend of Krug, designed to express the “most generous” expression of Champagne each year. The 172ᵉ Édition is based around the 2016 harvest year, and it’s a blend of 146 wines from 11 different years, the oldest being from 1998.

Composition by grape variety: ~44 % Pinot Noir, ~36 % Chardonnay, ~20 % Meunier.

Disgorged: Winter 2022-2023. Dosage around 4.5 g/L.

Appearance: Light golden colour, very fine and vivacious bubbles.

Aromas: White flowers, citrus, dried fruits, marzipan, gingerbread.

Palate: Rich, layered; flavours include hazelnut, nougat, barley sugar, brioche, almond, honey; also noted are white fruits and a mineral-saline finish.

Structure & ageing: This edition is described as “taut, tightly wound… exceptionally long”. It has both immediate appeal and long-term ageing potential.
